ARRAY’s Hollywood Africans

Inspired by artist Jean-Michel Basquiat’s painting, Hollywood Africans in Front of the Chinese Theater with Footprints of Movie Stars, ARRAY’s “Hollywood Africans” film series is a monthly summer screening event that explores representation and storytelling in and beyond the Golden Age of Hollywood. Just as Basquiat’s art chronicled his influences and the times in which he lived, this film series, pulled from his private VHS collection, ignites conversation around cinema’s role in the portrayal of and commentary about African Americans and other cultures. All events are FREE and feature ARRAY x Basquiat “We Wear Crowns” paint and sip studio, powered by ARRAY 101.

This program was created in partnership with The Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat and the “Jean-Michel Basquiat: King Pleasure©” exhibit, the first exhibition of his work presented by his family, currently on view in Downtown Los Angeles at The Grand LA. Don’t miss this limited LA engagement where you can see the featured painting “Hollywood Africans” for yourself. Exhibition tickets available now at kingpleasurela.com.
